Styling Tips for a Black Saree

When it comes to traditional Indian clothing, black is not a very popular color. This might be because it is considered inauspicious in most religions, or it might be simply because Indians typically have a preference for colorful palettes. However, this is no longer applicable in the world of modern Indian fashion, as both designers and fashionistas love the dramatic yet sophisticated elegance that black brings with it. This is why black sarees have become extremely trendy, not just for parties and casual events, but also for wedding functions. They are flattering for all body types and have a very sensual yet formal vibe.

Typically, black sarees are made of light, thin and fluid materials which balance off the starkness of the color. They should be styled depending on the material and the types of designs. Since colorful as well as metallic designs show up beautifully against black, these saris often come with startling patterns made with traditional Indian techniques. For instance, a black silk saree is likely to display glorious gold thread designs at the borders and pallu area. Such a garment should be styled with subtle yet charming gold jewelry. Intricate, unconventional pieces are the best bet; a gold mang-tikka, a gold nath or nose-ring or perhaps a Kundan necklace can beautifully offset the dramatic vibe of the black silk saree. To further complement the fusion vibe, women can go for a sophisticated, western style bun with loose curls at the front and then complete it with a traditional Indian ornament.

On the other end of the scale is the black net saree which is made with the transparent, delicate net fabric. These often come with heavy borders made of sparkling stones and sequins designs, though traditional gota patti, cut dana and zardosi designs may also be used.  Either way, the best way to style such sarees is with the aim of creating a glamorous, evening wear look. Large, sparkling Polki diamond earrings, colorful gemstone bracelets and pearl necklaces would all be great choices. A pair of towering stilettos with an appropriate sequins or gemstone decoration will complete the look perfectly.

The blouse should also be chosen with care when it comes to black sarees. A great way to accessorize with a blouse is to go for a dramatically different hue. Alternatively, women can opt for the boldly cut designs which bring out the sensual side of the lady.

There are many other types of black sarees, online and in stores, which women can browse. From the flowing chiffon varieties to the stiff Tussar silk options, from the simple cotton ones to the elaborate brocade saris, there are a number of widely different styles to explore. It is best that women plan their look and ensemble when buying a black saree online so that they can buy matching jewelry and accessories then and there. This is especially applicable if the styling has a traditional bent. Most online stores offer beautiful, traditional jewelry pieces, shoes and bags, as well as ethnic apparel, which can be delivered to locations across the world.
